Started September 9, 2013

BACKGROUND

Name: Prof.  Robert F.  Kleiner
Business: Web Database Encryption Expert

Drove to Date:
Saturn,  Nissan,  VW TDI,  BMW Z1 (very rare car) , Mercedes S, PORSCHE, JEEP
Car handed in:
Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

CHEVROLET ALLEGIANCE: Up to 1 year ago refused purchasing a Chevy.

ATTITUDE
Disapproving of tree hugging canola munching oil bashing environmentalists

PERSONAL TAKE:
Numbers must be balanced with Joy Factor
Market Analysis:
Before acquiring the vehicle I came to the conclusion that the Volt,  even though it was made by a company I did not like,  was the best car.
Warranty terms are good,  GSL Calgary with Joe Cuckow a partner I can trust (bought several used cars from in the past) and the leasing terms excellent,  plus the design is beautiful.

September 9 TESTDRIVE
From the second I drove the car I felt like being in a Science Fiction movie became reality. The car is very responsive and the feeling driving it absolut fun.
Sometimes missing the European finish of the interior
Range anxiety came soon, but then realized that there is a backup engine (this is why I would not buy a Leaf)  and that 60 k is plenty (this is why the Prius would drive me nuts,  aside of the design).
Only during the last trip of the day,  the engine kicked in which I could not hear but see.
Fuel used today: 0.4 l
Cons for today: Had to fiddle several times with the controls,  they could be a little more intuitive. I dislike manuals.
Charging: 110V
PlugIn: 8:30 pm
Overall for today : 9.5 of 10

September 10
Had 3 trips to make,  all was within the electric range.  Very pleased with it.
Fuel used today: 0.0 l
KM driven: 62
Cons for today:
My S3 smartphone did not properly connect to Bluetooth.  Chevy suspects software and recommend car software upgrade.
Charging: 110V
PlugIn: 8:12 pm
Overall for today : 9.0 of 10

September 11
Had to do 4 city trips in rush hour.
In 12 years in Calgary traffic was never that bad.
Car drives and handles great. And still it feels like a SciFi experience.
Dealership is great,  service terrific.  All promises are kept. What more can you wish for?
Fuel used today: just a sip.
KM driven: 68
Cons for today: The simple fact that I was disappointed to have used fuel.  Just on the last km,  the charge went to zero and the engine had to kick in.
This is why an electric only car at the present moment is not acceptable. And this is why the Volt is the best with its features.
Charging: 110V
PlugIn:  1 pm
Overall for today :  9. 8 of 10

September 12, 2013
Fuel used today: 0.5 l
KM driven: 85
Today traffic in Calgary was nuts.  Rush hour in and out like a parking lot.
Cons for today: I was really trying to not use fuel.  85 is beyond the reach.
Charging: 110V
PlugIn:  19:10 pm
Overall for today :  9.5 of 10

September 13, 2013
Fuel used today: 0.0 l

Development of new driving style,  increased range to 90+ kms.
Used to be a stressed out driver,  this car is calming for the nerves.
Driving style changes to conservative.
Very pleased today.

5 trips, ALL electric

Very pleased today. Just realized that with this car I do not have to move the key from my pocket, same feature as with my former S-class Mercedes.

Very cool.
This car never gets boring. And it saves me at least 15 Dollars per day!

Weather was colder, so the climate control took major parts of the power.
When turning off climate control, windows would fog, so climate control was turned back on.

Range was severely shortened from regular days.

Crazy Rushhour, would not have made it home without Pump Action.
Chevy should program that into their design.

The most liberating feeling about the Volt is that I have my own filling station at home.
I love it.
